Meet Our Dedicated Veterinarians and Staff

Dr. Tom Venard

Doc

Dr. Tom Venard, DVM a native of eastern Colorado, graduated from West Point in 1969, veterinary school from Colorado State University in 1975 and Harvard School of Public Health in 1985. He spent half of his veterinary career in the US Army Veterinary Corps traveling across the world from Italy, Korea, Germany and the U.S. to provide mobile veterinary services to soldiers’ pets. In 1991 Polly and Tom purchased Gunnison Veterinary Clinic and have been taking care of the animals of Gunnison, Lake City and Crested Butte areas. For years, Tom & Polly ran the business themselves with just their children as helping hands. Currently, he has children and grandchildren working here, with great grandchildren running around being raised at the practice. That has been their dream since day one of opening the practice in 1991. Today, Doc and Polly continue to stand firm in their beliefs that all employees and family members alike-as there is no difference continue to work here generation by generation, raise their children here, and return for warm welcomed visits as often as possible.

Doc as most call him has always loved animals and pets. He has always been fascinated by how the body works and enjoys continuing to learn about its new discoveries every day. He strives to not only make a difference in the lives of his pet patients, but their human families as well. His favorite part of veterinary medicine is being there for his clients from the first day they bring a new pet home to the day they have to say goodbye.

When Doc is not at the clinic he can be found enjoying the beauty of nature while working on his garden or out in the woods at the cabin. He is inspired every day while watching his family and the community grow.

Dr. Bailey Randlett

Dr. Bailey

Dr. Bailey Randlett grew up in the small western town of Payson, Arizona. For as long as she can remember, in her free time, she could be found on the back of a horse or out in the woods.

Dr. Bailey attained her undergraduate degree here at Western State Colorado University. Dr. Kenneth Johnson at Town and Country Animal Hospital gave Dr. Bailey her first shot in the veterinary profession as a technician. While in Gunnison, she fell in love with the mountains, the town, the people, and a local young man from the Powderhorn valley, Nico Randlett.

Nico and Bailey were married at the historic Fairview school house up CR 730. Shortly after the wedding, she packed up for veterinary school at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. It was a bittersweet four-year education as the Randlett’s spent it apart, making things work long distance. Every moment off from her studies, she would find her way back to her husband and their home in the Rocky Mountains.

Dr. Bailey is excited to return to Gunnison, bringing the most current knowledge of veterinary medicine and a passion for communication with her. Dr. Bailey wants pet parents to feel confident in their medical decisions for their furry friends by feeling comfortable asking questions and getting answers that are understandable. Many pets can have complicated medical diagnoses that require multiple medications, further diagnostic testing, and a lot of at-home care. Dr. Bailey wants to help you navigate these complexities so that these tasks can be done with ease and your pet can live their lives to the fullest for as long as possible.

Dr. Bailey, Nico, and Ember (their beloved pup) are excited to join Gunnison Veterinary Clinic and look forward to continuing to build their family here in the Gunnison valley.
